The Sand Motor Run is a permanent fixture on the Sand Motor every year. This running race is not about speed, but about experience. Feel the wind rushing past your face, while you run the most beautiful running round in the Netherlands. You can’t get closer to the elements!
Running together against cancer
During the Sand Motor Run you run together with people who feel connected by their love for the beach and at the same time you contribute to a good cause. The competition is linked to the Roparun: a major running event that raises money for the care of cancer patients and their loved ones.
Two of their teams organize the Sand Motor Run selflessly, in collaboration with the province of South Holland. Your registration fee therefore goes directly to those who really need it.
Prefer to walk?
That is also possible! On the morning of the ZandmotorRun we organize a beautiful walk led by an experienced guide who will reveal all the beautiful secrets of this nature reserve.
What about your stamina? The Sand Motor Run course runs all the way across the beach along the sea. There are 2 flavors: 5 or 10 kilometers. There is also a special KidsRun of 2 kilometers. And rest assured: you don’t have to plod through the water on any course. Below you can see how we run.

Sand Motor Run 2019
In 2019, 285 sporty participants ventured into this special running race. Together we raised € 2,702.50. We hope to surpass this again in the coming edition! Curious what the loop looks like? Then view the photo impressions of Ed Turk and Jeroen Tibbe below.
The ZandmotorRun is a running race organized by the province of South Holland and the Roparun teams 208 (province of South Holland) and 209 (Mad-Runners). The event arose from the need of the province of South Holland to make the Sand Motor more widely known and to use it recreationally. At the same time, the two Roparun teams approached with a request to organize a run for a good cause. There was a match!
- Province South-Holland
The Sand Motor is a unique pilot that attracts a lot of attention nationally and internationally. The province of South Holland wants to make optimum use of the recreational value of the Sand Motor so that visitors can enjoy the area. They coordinate the organization and reimburse the expenses for the run.
The two Roparun teams are responsible for the practical organization of the competition. These teams are selfless and take care of the course, guidance and logistics, among other things.
The Sand Motor Run is made possible in part by Decathlon. Decathlon supports the run by providing the start and finish arch and the start numbers.
In addition, every year many volunteers work to organize the Sand Motor Run free of charge as much as possible and to make it a success.
